The proposal for the new building of the Fraunhofer Institute in Augsburg refers to the central research area: functionally integrated lightweight construction, this research focus finds its counterpart in Japanese architecture.
I photographed the selected motif in the tea house of the Koto-in Temple in Kyoto. The special feature of the Koto-in Temple is that, for some mysterious reason, the white rice paper of the shoji, i.e. the thin sliding windows, is colored in the respective color of the outside. In summer, the white paper takes on the green of the leaves and, as here, in the autumn, the bright red of the acacia leaves. Lightweight construction par excellence, with the look and feel of a minimalist painting.

Der Vorschlag für den Neubau des Fraunhofer Instituts in Augsburg bezieht sich auf das zentrale Forschungs-gebiet: Funktionsintegrierter Leichtbau, dieser Forschungsschwerpunkt findet seine Entsprechung in der japanischen Architektur.
Das ausgewählte Motiv habe ich im Teehaus des Koto-in Tempels in Kyoto, aufgenommen. Die Besonderheit des Koto-in Tempels ist, dass sich aus geheimnisvollem Grund das weiße Reispapier der shoji, also der dünnen Schiebefenster, in der jeweiligen Farbe des Außen färbt. Im Sommer nimmt das weiße Papier Grün der Blätter an und wie hier im Herbst das leuchtende Rot der Akazienblätter. Leicht-Bau par excellence, mit der Anmutung eines minimalistischen Gemäldes.
